What is ISO?

ISO (International Organisation for Standardisation)  is an independent, non-governmental international organization with a membership of 169 national standards. Morgan's Consultancy Ltd focus on ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management, ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management and ISO 45001:2018 Health and Safety Management.  

ISO was founded with the idea of answering a fundamental question: “what's the best way of doing this?” Over time the solutions to this seemingly simple question were collated into sets of standards outlining what a company should have in place to successfully meet the criteria.

Has a competitor just obtained the ISO certification and you're wondering what the fuss is about? Are you trying to set yourself apart from the market, but not really sure why? There are a few main reasons/triggers why a company should obtain their ISO(s):

• Assurance - Sometimes it can be a mandatory requirement of a particular client you are looking to work for. Having ISO gives your new and existing customers a level of assurance that your company has been independently assessed by a Certification Body 
• Internal Processes - Taking a process-based approach to your company will help ensure every activity (process) has monitors and measures in place to let you know if the process is working (or not!). "Work smarter, not harder"
• Sales - Usually the main driver for certification. Whilst it isn't a guarantee of profit increase, having certification for ISO's can improve the management of your business, which as a result improves chances of securing more works. You will be much more attractive to potential and existing customers.
• Staff Happiness - Achieving and maintaining ISO certification(s) can lead to your colleagues taking more pride in their work, providing them clearer guidelines of what is required of them and helping to ensure they deliver to ultimately maintain ISO certification 
• Improvement - A good, embedded management system, will help drive improvements to processes, departments and to the company as a whole - including the "bottom line"
